When it comes to the 5 star hotel “experience” Alila Diwa Goa knocks it out of the park. This is my favorite luxury hotel in South Goa. My biggest question over the last weekend I spent there was “where should I have my next drink?”

The options were innumerable: the edge bar, Vivo the all day restaurant, Bistro the European eatery, or Spice a famous Indian restaurant…. or drinks by the pool, in the jacuzzi, or in the room on the patio? So we had drinks everywhere all day long. You’re lucky I even have photos to show you through my tipsy photography ;) although I don’t think I”ll add “drinking wine all day and still taking great photos” to my resume any time soon.

Club Diwa at the Alila

First of all the club room is huge. Even at 5 stars in India sometimes the rooms are just too tiny for what you pay for (like the Taj President in Mumbai), so it’s nice to actually have space. There’s a sitting area, king size bed, and the bathrooms have a huge tub right in the middle.

Part of the club experience means you have a host. If you’re going to splurge for the Alila you might as well pay a bit more for the Club. You’ll come back to your room with surprises waiting! They turned down our bed at night, ran a bath with roses, and left little decorations in the room.

This place is booked almost all the time and hosts weddings on the main side. The nice thing about the Club is that you have another pool and restaurant (Bistro) that are only for club residents. There’s a little more privacy and it’s more quiet plus you will have access to both pools.

For sunset, you’ll want to be by the main pool and watch sunset over the paddy fields in front of Edge bar. The pool has chairs in very shallow water so you can lay out in the water. Amazing!

Food at Alila Diwa

Ben and I both put on a couple kilos (we know because we actually weighed ourselves before checkout thinking wow we feel fat). My favorite place to eat was Spice which serves food from all over India and has a little information on each item about what inspired it. The chef is the cutest Goan woman who’s actually quite famous. We had saffron tandoori chicken, potato cakes, lemon butter red snapper, Goan sausages in rice, garlic cheese naan, and peri peri prawns. Yes, it was a lot of food!

Breakfasts were huge with bread baskets, fresh juice, coffee, and all the normal breakfast goodies. We also tried from Bistro fish n chips, a steak wrap, and tortilla chips with dip. Okay we tried even more… lobster soup, french onion soup, a lamb shank, and the rib eye. Everything was great.

Spa & more

In the club booking, I arranged for a 60 min Balinese massage. It was heavenly, although I expected nothing less. All the oils were so nice that I actually left them on after the sauna and used it as tanning oil by the pool. They offer sauna, outdoor rain shower, and tea after your massage. They do hair appointments, nails, facials, and anything else you can think of.
