True, the Amanjaya Pancam is a good hotel and well located. However, for the less affluent there are many less expensive, good hotels along, or within metres of, the riverside. Most of the hotel booking apps will bring them up. I lived in PP for six months in 2008 and even then the traffic was challenging. Now, ten years later, it is horrendous! If you find the pleasures and challenges of PP too much, escape to Battambang, a laid back city where you can still enjoy the best of Cambodia, its people.

its true that phnom penh is rapidly changing because of development. Though I would hope that they can improve more on the infrastructures and traffic in the city. I mean the population of PP is not anywhere near bangkok or manila but traffic is horrible…. im just saying… PP can be a great stop on your way to siem reap so splurging a little can be a good idea specially if the city can sometimes feel a bit too much.

Your post brings some of the best memories from Cambodia! I loved the capital a lot. It’s great to see the city developing, there are so many nice eateries there that you would never think of calling it a third word. And people are super friendly. I wanna go back.
