Too many people overlook this and assume it won’t work. I just want to get a massage and feel relaxed even if I just lay down.

Thanks.

Currently travelling Africa and will go to India soon. This course is so cheap and seems to helpful. Sorry if you already answered but I couldn’t find it: which school in Goa did you go to? I might do the same.. thank you =))

Hi Suus, I am no longer doing massages as blogging has taken over, but I was charging 2,000 Rs for one hour or 3,000 rs for 90 minutes ($46)

Exactly for this reason! Id love to give massage in Bali tho, as a way to live, but its quite hard to work there legally unfortunately… One question, may I ask you how much you charge for one hour when you give amssage in India? Thanks you!

Hi Rachel,

Thank you for the reply. Does the training centre you have studied Thai massage offer international certificates or certificates which are translated into English?

All the best!

Hi Thanh,

You’ll want to get a certificate that is International. I’m not sure in Vietnam where/how to do that. Then you want to get a sponsorship from a company in India to invite you to work for them, so you can come on a work visa. If you are coming on a tourist visa and just giving massages to other tourists at the hostel that is fine instead.

Thank you so much for all your great and inspiring stories you have shared here. :D

I am from VietNam and also want to explore the world like what you have described. :D I am taking the Thai yoga massage training course (90 hours) in Viet Nam and working to save money for my next travel. That is the only school here offering the course with certificates. But i m not sure they will meet the other countries’ requirements to give massages while travelling there. You also mentioned that its illegal to do a massage with a tourist visa. Therefore, I have some concerns: (1) what kind of certificates should I need for traveling and making enough money to afford it?; (2) if I only have a tourist visa, how could i do sth like you have done to earn money? or any other advice which helps my travelling dreams come true is appreciated.

Thank you so much.

Hi Elle,

No not in Thailand I think only in India. There are many people who offer this, probably even in Mexico! If you want to do massage while traveling it doesn’t matter where you get certified but these overseas certificates will not allow you to work in a real massage place in the US or a similar country.

I just discovered your blog tonight while searching online for people who travel as a massage therapist. I am 6 months away from completing my massage training, but I would like to say that I too have disliked the idea of rubbing a strangers body with oil! I am currently on a break and go back to school in January, but I am torn whether it’s worth learning basic massage vs Thai or Ayurvedic?? You mentioned getting your training from Ram in McLeod Ganj. Does he offer the Thai massage training in Thailand? I ask because I have been considering Thailand as my first destination out of the states. I am not too far in to school, so I could focus on saving money to get to Thailand and then from there do my massage training. What are your thoughts? Is it beneficial to have the certification in massage from the U.S. when traveling??

The teacher I had was in McLeod Ganj and his FB page is called “ram yoga house”. There are loads of massage places in Goa. I have a guy who comes to my house these days, but there’s a good one on Vagator clifftop and also at the edge of baga bridge.. sadly I don’t know names of places!

Rachel, your blog is amazing! You are so generous with your insights and your posts are a pleasure to read. I’m coming to Goa in March and am really interested in the Thai Yoga Cert Program. Can you refer me to the man who taught you? Also, if these amazing cheap massages you speak of are in Goa, I would love to hear about them! If you are free and would like to connect with a sister from the Philly area, please get in touch! I’d love to buy you a drink/tea or share some beach time while I am there. Bless! Joy

wow that’s amazing! I’m happy it’s still affordable. I am not on a tourist visa, but I don’t think it’s too strict if you are just doing something from your home- people do. but yes technically it’s illegal on tourist visa.

Super inspiring life you’re living, thankyou for sharing your experiences!
I’ve pretty much decided to go to india and do this course! (p.s. I contacted Ram and the price has only gone up $10 in 2 years!)
Just wondering, did you use a tourist visa while you were massaging? Do you know how strict the regulations are with working a little on the side?
Thanks!

I really love your blog! You are a great writer and your articles are really inspiring! :) I`m Physiotherapist myself and I´ve thought about it for a while that I could finance my travels by doing massage. Now I`m traveling to India and I was planning to do few massage courses (thai yoga massage sounds great!), and maybe stay for a while and work. How is it there with legal matters? Taxing? Have you registered your company? I mean will there be any problems with that?
Keep writing and inspiring! :)

Hi Jacquline, It sounds like you have a lot of qualifications and could work anywhere you choose. If you’re not confident living and working in India, perhaps somewhere a little more laid back like central america would be better for you.
